Teens
What a challenging time to be a teenager.
Caught between childhood and adulthood, teens navigate a complex world filled with family responsibilities, academic pressures, and evolving social dynamics. They’re in the midst of discovering their values, beliefs, identity, and personal preferences—all while being exposed to significant societal challenges. From navigating uncertainty in their communities to processing global events, teens today face unique obstacles that can shape their perspectives and emotional well-being.
Amidst these challenges, teens also face significant biological changes that impact their emotional well-being. Hormonal fluctuations can intensify mood swings, impulsivity, and stress, while their bodies undergo transformations that may feel unpredictable or frustrating. Adding to this, the part of their brain responsible for decision-making and self-regulation—the prefrontal cortex—is still developing, making it harder to manage complex emotions and responsibilities. Given these factors, it's no surprise that anxiety and depression among teens are at an all-time high.
Therapy can help.
Oftentimes parents/guardians want to put their teen in therapy to “fix” them. We won’t fix them for you, because they’re not broken. What we will do is create an environment where they feel safe, valued, and seen. We will listen to them and truly hear them. When they think they’ve figured something out but then change their mind, we will be there to encourage their exploration of all the different paths they can take. We will be an advocate for them, helping guide them through the messiness of life.
In therapy, teens can:
Learn how to identify and label their emotions.
Acquire ways to communicate in a more effective and productive way.
Develop coping skills to help regulate emotions like anger, anxiety, depression, and stress.
Gain insight and awareness into their problems.
Discover ways to navigate life transitions like parents’ divorce, death of loved ones, moving, changing schools, etc.
Strengthen their self-esteem.
Explore who they are with support.
Develop interpersonal skills to enhance their relationships.
